Harmeet Dhillon Resigns as DOJ Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights

by | Nov 5, 2026

Harmeet Dhillon resigned Thursday as the Justice Department’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, according to sources cited by Fox News.

Bloomberg reported that Dhillon had told associates she planned to leave the department after the midterm elections. Dhillon had also indicated in an August interview with Bloomberg that she intended to return to her California-based law firm, Dhillon Law Group, after her time at the Justice Department. Fox News did not report a specific reason for her resignation.

Dhillon took over the department’s Civil Rights Division in April 2025 after being confirmed by the Senate earlier that month. As head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Dhillon oversaw the department’s election-related work, including lawsuits seeking access to state voter registration records, enforcement of federal voting laws and efforts to ensure accurate voter rolls.
