Former FBI Director James Comey has been subpoenaed in a sweeping “grand conspiracy” investigation examining officials involved in probes and prosecutions of President Trump, according to Axios, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The inquiry, which has issued more than 130 subpoenas since accelerating last year, is focused on senior officials who served under the Barack Obama and Joe Biden administrations, with investigators seeking to establish coordinated wrongdoing tied to efforts against Trump.
Comey’s subpoena, issued last week, centers on his alleged involvement in drafting the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on alleged Russian election interference.
The grand jury, operating out of the Southern District of Florida and overseen by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, is part of a broader effort led by U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones to link Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former special prosecutor Jack Smith into a prosecutable conspiracy case tied to investigations spanning from the 2016 election through Trump’s 2023 indictments.
