Justice Department Issues Grand Jury Subpoenas in Expanding Probe of Obama-Era Intelligence Officials

by | Nov 7, 2025

A Florida grand jury subpoenaed former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page on Friday as part of an investigation into Obama-era intelligence officials who produced the Intelligence Community’s January 2017 assessment on the Russian election interference hoax.

The subpoenas, with up to 30 expected to be issued in the coming weeks, request a wide range of records—including paper and digital documents, text messages, and emails—tied to the preparation of the Intelligence Community’s January 2017 report. The sources said the effort marks a significant step in a widening federal investigation.

Justice Department officials in Miami and Washington, D.C., are coordinating the effort, which includes an ongoing probe into former CIA Director John Brennan. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason Reding Quiñones is overseeing the case, with evidence set to be presented to a grand jury in South Florida, according to Fox News.

Quiñones’ office is also reviewing documents from the office of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who prosecuted Trump in the classified records and election-related cases—both of which were dismissed after Trump’s reelection in November 2024.

The case is expected to proceed in Fort Pierce, within the district of Judge Aileen M. Cannon—the same judge who dismissed the classified documents case against President Trump earlier this year.
