Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked the United States for additional air defense systems as Ukraine faces sustained missile and drone strikes from Russia.
According to the Kyiv Independent, Zelenskyy sent a letter to President Trump warning that Ukraine’s stock of air defense systems, particularly those used to counter ballistic missiles, is becoming increasingly limited. The request comes as Russia continues large-scale aerial attacks across Ukraine.
In the letter, Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s reliance on U.S. and allied systems for protection against missile threats, writing, “When it comes to air defense against missiles, we rely on our friends. When it comes to defending against ballistic missiles, we rely almost exclusively on the United States.”
According to officials, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, has been delivering the letter to the White House, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and other members of Congress.
