U.S. and Iran Make Progress on Nuclear Talks in Geneva

by | Feb 17, 2026

The United States and Iran have reached an understanding on “guiding principles” in nuclear negotiations, Tehran’s foreign minister said Tuesday, with both parties to separately draft texts ahead of the next negotiation round.

Discussions covered sanctions relief and nuclear matters, with Tehran conveying its positions on nuclear limits, sanctions relief, and an overall framework to the U.S. side. President Trump said Monday he is involved indirectly in the Geneva talks and believes Tehran seeks a deal.

Iran maintains it will only discuss limits on its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief, rejecting demands to end uranium enrichment or discuss its missile program. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reiterated that Iran’s missile stockpile is nonnegotiable, and its range and capabilities are unrelated to the U.S.
