President Trump announced Friday he will sign an executive order imposing a new 10% “global tariff,” hours after the Supreme Court struck down his broad reciprocal import tariffs.
Trump said the new tariffs will be layered on top of existing levies that remain in place despite the court’s ruling. He told reporters at the White House that the duties will be implemented under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows tariffs to remain for 150 days unless Congress approves an extension.
Asked about that statutory time limit, Trump insisted, “We have the right to do pretty much what we want to do.”
