Trump Sends Tom Homan to Minnesota, Coordinates With Governor Walz

by | Jan 26, 2026

President Trump announced he is sending Tom Homan to Minnesota to address crime and law enforcement concerns, announcing later that he spoke with Governor Tim Walz to coordinate efforts.

Trump described Homan, a longtime federal immigration official, as “tough but fair” and said he would report directly to him. He linked the deployment to ongoing federal investigations and efforts to improve public safety in the state.

Following the announcement, Trump said he received a call from Governor Walz, who requested cooperation on criminal matters. The president said the conversation was productive and that Homan would reach out to the governor to coordinate on enforcement efforts. Trump noted past successes in cities such as Washington, D.C., Memphis, and New Orleans, and said both he and Walz want to continue improving safety in Minnesota.

Trump’s announcement follows a weekend of heightened tensions in Minneapolis after federal agents fatally shot a 37‑year‑old ICU nurse, Alex Pretti, during an immigration enforcement operation, igniting protests. Pretti, a U.S. citizen who worked at a Veterans Affairs hospital, was killed Saturday when a U.S. Border Patrol agent fired during an altercation, sparking clashes with law enforcement and activation of the Minnesota National Guard.
