The Trump administration has launched a sweeping multi-agency plan aimed at blocking Chinese nationals and other foreign adversaries from buying U.S. farmland and accessing agricultural research.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, joined by top cabinet officials, announced the National Farm Security Action Plan on Tuesday, warning that adversaries are “buying our farmland, stealing our research, and creating dangerous vulnerabilities.”
Under the plan, over 700 foreign nationals will be removed from USDA contracts, and more than 550 flagged entities will face regulatory action. Rollins said farmland purchases by Chinese nationals—who currently own more than 265,000 acres, some near U.S. military bases—will be banned. All USDA agreements with adversarial countries will be terminated.
The USDA will also partner with DARPA to prioritize domestic agricultural innovation and cut ties with research linked to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which previously received U.S. funding for controversial experiments.
Rollins said the president is expected to sign a new executive order soon. Governors from Arkansas, Nebraska, and Tennessee joined the announcement, with Rollins calling for bipartisan cooperation to protect U.S. agriculture and national security.
