President Trump’s administration unveiled an $11.15 billion arms package for Taiwan Wednesday, marking the largest U.S. weapons sale to the island to date. The package is intended to help Taiwan modernize its armed forces and maintain a credible defensive capability.
The eight agreements, announced by the State Department during a nationally televised address, cover 82 HIMARS rocket systems, 420 ATACMS missiles, 60 self-propelled howitzers, drones, military software, Javelin and TOW missiles, helicopter spare parts, and Harpoon missile refurbishment kits.
The sale would surpass the $8.4 billion in U.S. arms sold to Taiwan under the Biden administration. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry thanked the U.S., saying the deal strengthens self-defense and regional stability, while Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung highlighted its role in deterring conflict in the Taiwan Strait.
