Steve Bannon, a prominent ally of President Trump, reported to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday to begin serving a four-month prison sentence. This sentence follows his defiance of a subpoena issued by the House committee investigating January 6, 2021.
Arriving at the facility around noon, Bannon was officially taken into custody. Before entering prison, Bannon addressed supporters and reporters, expressing pride in his decision to comply with the law while criticizing Attorney General Merrick Garland, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden.
“I am proud to go to prison,” Bannon declared to his supporters. “If this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny, the corrupt DOJ under Garland, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden, then I'm proud to do it.”
Bannon previously sought to delay his imprisonment through legal appeals, including an emergency request to the Supreme Court, but they denied it last week. House GOP leaders also voted last week to challenge the previous Congress’ handling of the January 6 select committee, aiming to aid Bannon’s appeal. The decision emerged from a vote by the Bipartisan legal Advisory Group, tasked with setting the chamber’s legal positions.
