RNC Pushes for Voter Roll Transparency in Nationwide Records Request

by | Mar 25, 2025

The Republican National Committee is seeking information from states on voter roll maintenance as part of its latest election integrity effort, launching one of its largest-ever records requests on Tuesday. The RNC’s election integrity unit contacted election officials in 48 states and Washington, D.C., requesting all documents related to voter registration maintenance.

An RNC official said the effort aims to ensure that only eligible voters remain registered. The party is specifically requesting records on how states remove ineligible voters, including non-citizens, criminals, and deceased individuals.

Under the National Voter Registration Act and state-specific public records laws, states must maintain and provide transparency on voter list accuracy. The RNC excluded North Dakota, which lacks a formal voter registration process, and Maryland from its requests.

During the 2024 election, some states moved to clean up voter rolls but faced legal challenges from the Biden-Harris Department of Justice. In Alabama, Secretary of State Wes Allen identified 3,251 registered voters who had been issued noncitizen identification numbers by the Department of Homeland Security. The DOJ intervened, arguing it was too close to Election Day for such action. A similar dispute arose in Virginia.

Throughout the 2024 cycle, the RNC filed over 100 election integrity lawsuits across 20 states, according to its website. Despite 2025 being an off-year, the party is ramping up legal efforts, expanding staff, and investigating long-term election integrity concerns.
