Reports: Iran Signals Willingness for Talks, CIA Arms Kurdish Forces

by | Mar 4, 2026

Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence made an indirect offer to the CIA to discuss ending the conflict through a third country’s spy agency, according to The New York Times, citing officials briefed on the outreach.

Iran’s semi‑official Tasnim agency called the report “absolute falsehood and psychological warfare,” and U.S. officials questioned its seriousness.

Separately, multiple sources told CNN that the CIA is arming Iranian Kurdish forces to foster an uprising inside Iran. The Trump administration has discussed providing military support with Iranian opposition groups and Iraqi Kurdish leaders.

According to CNN, President Trump spoke with Mustafa Hijri, president of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and contacted Iraqi Kurdish leaders about U.S. coordination. Kurdish officials said opposition forces could take part in a ground operation in western Iran soon, expecting U.S. and Israeli support.

CIA support for Kurdish groups began months before the start of the war, according to a source and a senior Kurdistan Regional Government official.
