President Trump to meet with House and Senate GOP in Washington Thursday

by | Jun 11, 2024

President Trump is set to visit the nation's capital on Thursday for meetings with both House and Senate Republicans. He will start his day at the Capitol Hill Club, a members-only venue favored by House Republicans, according to three sources.

An invitation sent to senior House GOP aides on Tuesday, obtained by Fox News Digital, indicates that Trump’s visit comes at the joint invitation of House leadership: Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

In addition to his meeting with House Republicans, Trump will also address Senate Republicans. Senate GOP Conference Chair John Barrasso's office confirmed that this meeting will take place on Thursday, likely at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters, as per a source familiar with the plans.

House GOP leaders have maintained close alignment with Trump since Johnson assumed the speaker's role in late October, with several sources noting that Johnson frequently consults Trump before announcing significant House agenda items.

Following his meetings with congressional Republicans on Thursday, Trump is scheduled to meet again with Speaker Johnson and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) on Monday, according to a source familiar with the arrangements.
