Oregon filed a federal lawsuit late Sunday to stop President Trump’s order deploying 200 National Guard troops to Portland to protect federal buildings amid anti-ICE protests.
Trump invoked Title 10 on Saturday, authorizing the deployment for 60 days and saying the troops could use “full force, if necessary” to protect federal immigration facilities from domestic terrorists.
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, joined by the City of Portland, sought a preliminary injunction in U.S. District Court, arguing the order violates the Posse Comitatus Act and the 10th Amendment. “Oregon communities are stable, and our local officials have been clear: we have the capacity to manage public safety without federal interference,” Rayfield said.
Gov. Tina Kotek also condemned the move, calling it “an abuse of power and a disservice to our communities and our service members,” stressing there was “no insurrection or threat to public safety” warranting military intervention.
