The defamation trial of MyPillow CEO and Trump ally Mike Lindell began today in federal court in Denver. The case was brought by former Dominion Voting Systems executive Eric Coomer, who accuses Lindell of spreading a “baseless conspiracy theory” linking him to election fraud in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
Coomer’s complaint, filed in 2022, centers on claims first made by Colorado podcaster Joe Oltmann, who alleged that he overheard someone named “Eric, the Dominion guy” on an “Antifa conference call” boasting about rigging the election against President Trump. Lindell allegedly adopted and promoted the story on his FrankSpeech platform, which the lawsuit claims helped him and his company profit by tying promotional discounts to the conspiracy narrative.
The lawsuit argues that Lindell’s campaign of “disinformation” destroyed Coomer’s career and reputation, claiming, “After more than fifteen years as a respected professional… Dr. Coomer’s reputation has been irreparably tarnished.” Coomer, who says he now faces frequent death threats, has been unable to continue working in the elections industry.
Lindell plans to testify, and Coomer is expected to take the stand early.
The case mirrors a separate suit Coomer filed against Salem Media and radio host Randy Corporan, both accused of amplifying Oltmann’s theory. Former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters—currently serving a nine-year sentence—is also expected to testify during the trial.
