Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking records tied to documents Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino described as being discovered in a previously “hidden” room at FBI Headquarters, material he said originated in the James Comey era.
The case, filed in federal court in Washington after no response to a June 2 FOIA request, asks for the documents Bongino referenced in a Fox News interview, internal communications involving the offices of FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Bongino about the discovery, and any directives on how the material was to be handled.
Bongino, in a May 29 interview highlighted on X, said agents “found stuff. A lot of stuff … hidden from us at least and not mentioned to us,” adding that much of it “was not processed through the normal procedure, digitizing and putting in FBI records,” and was found “in bags, hiding under Jim Comey’s FBI.” He said the bureau is working to declassify the material but noted some of the information belongs to other intelligence agencies.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said the documents could hold further evidence, stating, “We know Comey was spying on Donald Trump. He was the Obama administration’s go-to guy, trying to set Trump up to be toppled from the campaign and then from office. These hidden-room documents may contain additional smoking guns.”
