Judicial Watch announced Thursday it obtained 5,789 pages of Michigan AG records showing the state coordinated with the nonprofit States United Democracy Center, which sought indictments of Trump supporters, Republican lawyers, and officials who challenged the 2020 election.
The records, produced after a FOIA request filed January 2, 2025, suggest a broader multistate effort to prosecute Americans over 2020 election disputes. States United, founded by Norm Eisen, former Obama ethics czar and special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for the impeachment of Trump, reportedly aimed to prosecute and disbar Trump attorneys and associates nationwide.
Emails include exchanges between States United litigator Jonathan Williams and Michigan AG Civil Rights and Elections Division Chief Heather Meingast. In August 2024, Williams wrote about drafting a Common Interest Agreement and coordinating a multistate call with clients in Nevada.
A States United action plan targeted Republicans raising 2020 election questions, noting wins in Arizona and Michigan primaries and warning such candidates “pose a threat to our democracy.”
In September of this year, a judge dismissed Michigan Democratic AG Dana Nessel’s indictments of Trump alternative electors.
