The FBI is significantly expanding its investigation into matters related to Georgia’s 2020 election, directing personnel and resources from field offices across the country to support what agency leadership has designated a “priority” case.
According to internal FBI documents obtained by MS NOW and described by two U.S. officials familiar with the matter, FBI Director Kash Patel has instructed intelligence analysts from every FBI field office to assist the FBI’s Atlanta office with the investigation.
An unclassified memo issued Wednesday states that the FBI’s Directorate of Intelligence and Criminal Division are requesting all field offices to “immediately surge support” for the Atlanta-based investigation. The memo outlines staffing requirements based on the size of each field office, totaling approximately 260 intelligence analysts assigned to the effort. Dozens of FBI agents are also reportedly participating.
The memo further authorizes overtime, including weekends and holidays, as personnel work toward a July 17 deadline. Each intelligence analyst is expected to complete at least 708 records checks during that period.
One U.S. official said the analysts are being tasked with identifying potentially derogatory information that could help build investigative cases. According to the official, the work includes reviewing associations between individuals, social media activity, business records, travel history, and contacts with other investigative subjects.
