Former Special Counsel Jack Smith has been subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee for a deposition tied to congressional oversight of his office’s prosecutions of President Trump and his co-defendants, according to a letter dated December 3, 2025, from Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan.

The committee informed Smith that it believes he possesses information critical to its review of the Office of Special Counsel’s actions and said communications with his legal team indicated his availability to testify. The subpoena schedules Smith’s deposition for 10 a.m. on December 17, 2025.

In addition to the testimony demand, the committee issued a document subpoena requiring the production of requested materials by December 12, 2025. The panel cited its authority under House Rule X to conduct oversight of the Justice Department for potential legislative reforms.

The letter was sent through Smith’s attorneys at Covington & Burling LLP and copied to Rep. Jamie Raskin, the committee’s ranking member.
