Republican congressional investigators have launched an inquiry into collusion between the Democratic-controlled House January 6th committee and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis regarding her prosecution of Donald Trump.
According to a status report released Monday by the House Administration Oversight Subcommittee chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), it was discovered that in 2021, Willis requested House Democrats to provide any evidence that could aid in her prosecution of Trump.
The committee expressed concerns that the investigation led by Reps Benny Thompson and Liz Cheney may have shared evidence, including video depositions, with Fani Willis's office, while not providing the same to the Republicans who assumed control of the House chamber in 2023.
These concerns were raised in a chapter of the report released Monday titled “Collusion with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.”
The report noted that during its preliminary examination of records stored by the Select Committee, the Subcommittee came across a letter dated December 17, 2021, from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to the Select Committee.
The GOP report referenced articles from news outlets such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Politico, which reported on sources claiming that the Democratic January 6th committee had shared evidence with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
The congressional inquiry coincides with a Georgia state judge's deliberation on whether to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis due to evidence suggesting she had an affair with her chief prosecutor while prosecuting Trump for charges related to January 6th, 2021.
In addition, Just the News, in collaboration with the America First Legal public interest law firm, has filed a lawsuit aiming to compel Willis to disclose any communications between her office and the Biden White House during her pursuit of Trump.
