Amos Hochstein, Biden’s deputy assistant and senior adviser for energy and investment, received a letter from House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer on Tuesday asking him to attend a transcribed interview.
The letter asks Hochstein to meet with the committees to discuss his prior work with Blue Star Strategies, an international lobbying firm that Hunter Biden had recommended to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. According to testimony from IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler, Blue Star failed to disclose approximately $480,000 in payments from the company.
The lawmakers request more information in the letter regarding Hochstein’s interactions with Blue Star and the Biden family as well as their prior discussions about Hunter’s time spent serving on the board of Burisma.
“We believe that you possess relevant information that will both meaningfully advance the impeachment inquiry and assist the Committees in crafting potential legislation, including legislative reforms to FARA,” the letter states.
In the letter, it is also mentioned that Hochstein was the State Department's Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs at the same time that Blue Star and Burisma connected in October 2015. Hochstein reportedly expressed worries about potential conflicts of interest resulting from Hunter Biden's position on the board of Burisma.
Hochstein declined to comment on counsel's advice regarding the substance of his conversation with then-Vice President Biden in a 2020 interview with Senate investigators.
On February 28, Hunter Biden will give a testimony. The deposition will take place behind closed doors.
