Georgia Court of Appeals schedules December 5 hearing for Trump’s appeal in Georgia election case

by | Jul 16, 2024

The Georgia Court of Appeals has scheduled oral arguments for December 5 in President Trump's appeal concerning the disqualification of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, ensuring the case will not go to trial before the 2024 election.

Trump and his co-defendants are challenging a lower court's decision that permitted Willis to continue on the case, despite her previous romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who resigned as per the judge's order. Willis has requested the dismissal of Trump's appeal, arguing there is insufficient evidence to warrant a reversal of the lower court's decision.

Last August, Trump and 18 others pleaded not guilty to all charges in a broad racketeering indictment related to alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election “results” in Georgia. Four defendants have since accepted plea deals, agreeing to testify against other defendants. Trump has consistently denied all charges and criticized the investigation as politically motivated.
