A forensic gait analysis reportedly found a 94% to 98% match between the walking pattern of former U.S. Capitol Police officer Shauni Rae Kerkhoff and the suspect seen planting pipe bombs near the Democratic and Republican national headquarters on Jan. 5, 2021, according to multiple intelligence sources cited by The Blaze.
Kerkhoff, 31, of Alexandria, Virginia, served about four and a half years with the Capitol Police before leaving in 2021 for a campus-security position at the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA confirmed her employment but said she was never part of the director’s protection detail.
The analysis compared Kerkhoff’s movements from surveillance footage and older videos, including soccer clips from her college years, to the suspect’s movements on the night before the Capitol riot. Analysts cited consistent parameters such as hip extension, knee flexion, step length, and cadence. Investigators also noted her distinctive walk and a slight limp as identifying traits in the gait review.
The pipe bombs were placed under park benches outside the DNC and the Capitol Hill Club, diverting police resources during the Capitol breach the next day. Former FBI agents and congressional investigators quoted in the report said the Investigation’s slow pace and early surveillance activity near a Falls Church address days after Jan. 6 raise concerns about possible law-enforcement involvement or suppression of evidence.
The Blaze noted that former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund and other officials have called for further investigation to determine whether any co-conspirators or agencies had prior knowledge of the bombing plot.
