FBI’s New York Chief Resigns After Revelation of Withheld Epstein Files

by | Mar 3, 2025

James Dennehy, head of the FBI’s New York office, resigned just days after it was revealed that his office had been concealing thousands of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

“Late Friday, I was informed that I needed to put my retirement papers in today, which I just did,” Dennehy wrote in an email obtained by NBC. “I was not given a reason for this decision.” Two sources confirmed that Dennehy was given the choice between resigning or being fired. He opted to step down.

Attorney General Pam Bondi disclosed that the FBI had been withholding thousands of Epstein-related files and ordered the agency to turn over the full records by the morning of February 28, which did not happen. She also launched an immediate investigation into the matter.

Last Thursday’s much-anticipated release of “The Epstein Files: Phase One” left many Americans frustrated. The 120-page document dump, provided to a select group of MAGA influencers, was heavily redacted and largely rehashed information already known.

Dennehy also played a key role in preventing the mass firing of thousands of officials involved in January 6th cases. When the Trump Justice Department requested a list of employees who had worked on the prosecutions of hundreds of Trump supporters, Dennehy’s then-acting FBI Director, Brian Driscoll, refused to hand over the names. Dennehy was also involved in the corruption investigation of New York Mayor Eric Adams.
