Comer, Jordan send last warning to Garland before initiating contempt

by | Apr 16, 2024

Jim Jordan, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and James Comer, Chair of the House Oversight Committee, jointly penned a letter to AG Merrick Garland on Monday. In the letter, they urged the DOJ to adhere to subpoenas issued by both committees or risk being held in contempt of Congress.

The two lawmakers reiterated their request for the audio recordings of Special Counsel Robert Hur's interviews with Joe Biden, as well as the transcript and audio recordings of Hur's interviews with Biden's ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer.

Despite previous requests for both, the DOJ only provided two transcripts of Hur's interview with Zwonitzer and withheld the audio recordings of Hur's interviews with both Biden and Zwonitzer.

The lawmakers cautioned that if they do not receive the requested material by noon on April 25, they will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.
