Clintons Refuse House Epstein Testimony, Dare Comer to Pursue Contempt

by | Jan 13, 2026

Bill and Hillary Clinton declined to appear for subpoenaed depositions in the House investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, rejecting demands from Rep. James Comer and escalating a standoff that could lead to contempt proceedings.

In letters sent ahead of this week’s deadlines, the Clintons said they would not testify behind closed doors and challenged Comer to follow through on threats to hold them in contempt of Congress.

The Clintons argued the subpoenas lack a valid legislative purpose and are legally unenforceable, saying they have already provided sworn written statements and possess no relevant information tied to the investigation. Their attorneys accused Comer of pursuing a politically driven process designed to harass and embarrass them.

The House Oversight Committee said contempt proceedings will begin if the Clintons do not appear, a step the former president and former secretary of state said they anticipated and are prepared to contest.
