Biden’s Ex-Physician Seeks Delay in Testimony Over Medical Privacy Concerns

Biden’s Physician, Kevin O’Connor

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, former White House physician to Joe Biden, is requesting a delay in his scheduled testimony before the House Oversight Committee, citing concerns over doctor–patient confidentiality. In a letter sent Saturday, O’Connor’s attorney proposed rescheduling his appearance to late July or early August, urging lawmakers to reach an agreement that protects both his professional obligations and Biden’s privacy.

O’Connor is under subpoena as part of the committee’s investigation into Biden’s cognitive health during his presidency, particularly allegations that an autopen was used to sign legislation on his behalf. House Republicans argue this may point to efforts by staff to obscure Biden’s mental decline.

The Oversight Committee has stated it will allow O’Connor to raise privilege objections question-by-question, but maintains that confidentiality concerns do not excuse noncompliance with a congressional subpoena. Committee Chairman James Comer previously asserted that physician–patient privilege, as outlined by the American Medical Association, lacks legal standing when federal law compels disclosure.

O’Connor’s lawyer described the committee’s refusal to accommodate his concerns as “unprecedented” and warned it could place his client’s medical license at risk. The committee has not indicated it will grant a delay.
