Joe Biden sued the Department of Justice on Tuesday to stop the release of audio recordings and transcripts tied to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s classified documents investigation.
The DOJ plans to release the materials to the House Judiciary Committee and the Heritage Foundation on June 15. The recordings came from Biden’s 2016 and 2017 conversations with his biographer during work on his memoir.
Biden’s lawsuit says the DOJ previously argued the records were exempt from FOIA disclosure requests before the Trump administration reversed course and approved their release. He is asking the court to declare the committee’s request invalid and permanently block the records from being released.
Biden also recently moved to intervene in the Heritage Foundation’s lawsuit against the DOJ. A judge allowed him to join the case last week but barred claims tied directly to the committee’s request.
