ATF Email Describes Rifle and Ammunition Found After Charlie Kirk Assassination

by | Sep 11, 2025

An ATF officer shared an internal law enforcement message detailing evidence recovered near the site of Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley State University, according to the team at Louder with Crowder, which says it received the email this morning.

According to the document, agents located an older-model imported Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel in a wooded area along the suspected shooter’s escape route. The weapon reportedly contained one spent round and three live cartridges, all engraved with phrases reflecting transgender and anti-fascist ideology.

During a press conference this morning, Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls confirmed that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was recovered in the wooded area, along with shoe impressions and a palm print. He added that while the assassin remains at large, investigators believe the suspect is college-aged and say they have obtained good video footage of him.

Kirk was shot and killed around 12:24 p.m. local time on September 10 while speaking on campus during the first date of the American Comeback Tour. Investigators say the gunman fired a single shot from a rooftop of a nearby building before jumping off and fleeing into a neighborhood on foot.

The ATF reported that the firearm and ammunition have been transferred to the FBI for DNA and fingerprint testing, with plans to fully disassemble the weapon for importer tracing.

The
FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a person of interest connected to the assassination. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1‑800‑CALL‑FBI or submit tips digitally via https://tips.fbi.gov/digitalmedia/f4507712a3b2893.
