Alina Habba Steps Down as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Continues as Senior DOJ Advisor

by | Dec 8, 2025

Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, announced she is stepping down following a Third Circuit ruling, while continuing to serve the Justice Department as Senior Advisor to the Attorney General for U.S. Attorneys.

In her statement Monday, Habba highlighted achievements including Camden’s first murder-free summer in 50 years, reduced crime, and prosecutions of violent offenders, terrorists, and child predators. She criticized New Jersey judges and senators for delaying trials and prioritizing politics over public safety.

“To protect the stability and integrity of the office, I have decided to step down,” Habba said. “But do not mistake compliance for surrender. This decision will not weaken the Justice Department or me.”
