by | Aug 23, 2024

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a joint statement after meeting in Kyiv, outlining plans to elevate bilateral relations from a comprehensive to a strategic partnership. The leaders agreed to hold the second meeting of the joint working group on military-technical cooperation, as per the 2012 Defense Cooperation Agreement.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties based on mutual trust and respect, with a shared focus on upholding international law, including respect for territorial integrity and state sovereignty. Modi emphasized India's principled stance on peaceful resolution through dialogue, while Zelenskyy welcomed India's participation in the Peace Summit.

The two sides also discussed key areas of cooperation, including trade, agriculture, defense, education, science, and green energy, highlighting the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties. They stressed the need to simplify business conditions and foster economic growth.

Zelenskyy reaffirmed support for India’s permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council, and Modi expressed hope for Ukraine's accession to the International Solar Alliance.

Modi’s historic visit to Kyiv, the first by an Indian head of government, concluded with an invitation for Zelenskyy to visit India.
