EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin says the agency has made multiple criminal referrals to the Department of Justice and EPA Inspector General after uncovering a scheme that directed billions in taxpayer-funded green energy grants to Democrat-linked organizations.
Speaking on the John Solomon Reports podcast, Zeldin said the EPA has canceled or blocked roughly $29 billion in grants, including a $2 billion award to Power Forward Communities, a nonprofit tied to former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. He alleged the Biden administration used pass-through organizations connected to former Obama and Biden officials, Democratic donors, and political allies to distribute funds through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
The disputed funding remains tied up in federal court, though a federal appeals panel recently sided with the EPA after a lower court initially blocked efforts to freeze the money. Zeldin said he expects most of the funds ultimately will be recovered and returned to the Treasury.
