U.S. and Russia Agree to Resume High-Level Military Talks

by | Feb 5, 2026

The U.S. military said Washington and Moscow agreed Thursday to reestablish high-level military-to-military dialogue following talks in Abu Dhabi, a step taken to improve transparency.

Officials said the renewed channel is intended to reduce the risk of miscalculation and escalation. The talks followed meetings in Abu Dhabi between U.S. European Command head Gen. Alexus Grynkewich and senior Russian and Ukrainian military officials.

The United States suspended direct military communications with Moscow just before Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the largest confrontation between Russia and the West since the Cold War.
