A fundraiser initiated by President Trump and his supporters to aid the victims of Hurricane Helene is closing in on the $7 million milestone. Initially set with a target of $1 million, the campaign has already started distributing funds to aid organizations assisting those affected by the devastating storm in the southeastern United States.
According to the Trump campaign’s authorized GoFundMe, four aid groups—Samaritan’s Purse, Water Mission, Clinch Foundation, and Mtn2Sea Ministries—are the designated recipients of the disbursements. Currently, the total raised stands at $6,835,599, a figure expected to climb even further in the coming days.
The Trump campaign’s fundraiser has become one of the largest private contributions in response to the disaster, which struck Florida over a week ago. While corporate donations have averaged around $1 million, the combined efforts of NFL teams and players have reached roughly $8 million in contributions for rescue and recovery efforts.
The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and a sluggish federal response have spurred extensive private initiatives aimed at helping the tens of thousands left without power or clean water, especially in America’s Appalachian region. Among the key private contributors is technology mogul Elon Musk, whose employees have been deploying the StarLink satellite internet system to restore communication in areas where cellular and internet services have been lost.
Despite these efforts, the human toll continues to rise. The death toll has reached 230, and with more than 600 people still missing, officials fear the number of fatalities may increase further.
