President Trump has signed a new national counterterrorism strategy that expands federal focus on cartel networks, hemispheric threats, and domestic extremist groups, according to White House counterterrorism director Sebastian Gorka.
Gorka said Trump signed the strategy Tuesday, describing it as centered on protecting the United States as a homeland priority. The plan prioritizes the “neutralization” of cartel operations, aimed at disrupting drug trafficking, human smuggling, and related networks before they reach the U.S.
The strategy also directs federal agencies to identify and track violent political organizations with anti-American ideology, including Antifa. He said authorities will map networks and affiliations and use law enforcement tools to disrupt operations before violence occurs.
U.S. officials will meet with allies this week to coordinate counterterrorism efforts, with a focus on Iran-linked threats and the Strait of Hormuz region. The strategy also maintains continued pressure on global jihadist organizations, including al Qaeda.
