Trump Lawyers Demand Cohen Communications From Letitia James’ Office

Attorneys for President Trump filed a 25-page motion Wednesday seeking the release of all communications between Michael Cohen and the office of Letitia James, citing a recent Substack post in which the former Trump attorney claimed he was “pressured and coerced” into testifying against the president.

The filing comes roughly a month before Trump’s legal team is scheduled to respond at the New York Court of Appeals to James’ effort to reinstate a civil fraud judgment of more than $500 million that was overturned last August. Trump’s attorneys argue Cohen’s testimony was central to the attorney general’s case and helped trigger a politically motivated investigation into Trump, his family, and their businesses.

The motion seeks records of all communications between Cohen and the New York Attorney General’s Office, including interview transcripts, emails, notes, letters, and recordings. Trump’s lawyers say the materials are critical as they consider filing a motion to vacate the judgment and are asking the court to ensure the records are preserved during ongoing litigation.

In his January Substack post, Cohen accused James and Alvin Bragg of pressuring him to deliver testimony that would help secure judgments and convictions against Trump in both the civil fraud case and the Manhattan “hush money” prosecution. Trump’s attorneys say the attorney general’s office has so far failed to produce the requested records or confirm whether such communications are being preserved.
