Trump campaign: ‘Hard no’ on RNC covering President’s legal expenses

by | Mar 7, 2024

President Trump's campaign emphasizes that the Republican National Committee (RNC) will not be contributing any funds towards the legal fees associated with his pending criminal or civil cases.

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Wednesday, conducted shortly after Nikki Haley terminated her presidential candidacy, a spokesperson for the president's campaign asserted that the RNC would “absolutely not” be allocating any of its funds to address his legal expenses.

“Hard no. Absolutely not. Asked and answered,” the spokesperson stated.

According to a report by CNBC released earlier on Wednesday, there is an increasing number of RNC committee members advocating for the organization to assist in covering Trump's legal expenses. One committee member stated that they represented “more than a majority” of the members on the committee.

The idea that Trump would depend on the RNC to cover his legal costs seems to have begun with Haley after Trump endorsed potential successors to McDaniel, who is resigning as RNC chair effective March 8th. During an interview with CNN, Haley stated that Trump intended to treat the organization as his personal “piggy bank.”
