Trump Emphasizes “Vital” Need for “Free, Fair, and Open Media” to Make America Great Again

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday stressed the importance of a “free, fair, and open media” as a critical element to “Make America Great Again,” stating that he feels “an obligation” to engage with the press, even those outlets that have treated him “badly beyond comprehension.”

During the interview, Trump outlined his vision for transforming America into “the greatest and most powerful country in the world.” He discussed his relationship with the media and detailed plans for how he intends to interact with the press during his second term. “In order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair, and open media or press,” Trump emphasized.

Trump recently met with “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski in Palm Beach for the first time in seven years. “I received a call from Joe Scarborough requesting a meeting for him and Mika, and I agreed it would be a good thing,” Trump said. The meeting, held at Mar-a-Lago, was described as “extremely cordial.” Trump shared that “many things were discussed” and appreciated the hosts’ willingness to engage in “open communication.”

According to Trump, Scarborough and Brzezinski congratulated him on running a “great and flawless campaign, one for the history books.” He acknowledged the hard work behind his campaign and noted discussions about various Cabinet members during their conversation, ending the meeting on a “positive” note with plans to continue future dialogues.

The president-elect expressed his intention to meet with other members of the media, including those who have been “extremely hostile.” Trump affirmed that he has “an obligation to the American public, and to our country itself, to be open and available to the press.” However, he warned, “If not treated fairly, that will end. The media is very important to the long-term success of the United States of America.”

Trump reiterated his commitment to elevating the country, promising to do “whatever is necessary to bring our country to the highest level that it’s ever seen.” He pledged to maintain transparency and an “open and free” approach to media relations.

Notably, Trump stated he “obviously” holds “the upper hand” at the moment but is not seeking “retribution, grandstanding, or to destroy people” who have treated him unfairly. While he is open to giving second and third chances, he firmly added, “never willing to give a fourth chance — that is where I hold the line.”

Trump expressed gratitude to journalists, reporters, and media outlets who have been “truthful, honest, and professional” throughout his presidency and campaigns. “These people and organizations, and they know who they are, should be, and are, very proud of themselves,” he said, extending his congratulations.
