President Trump's legal team has filed an order in a New York appeals court, seeking an expedited ruling on their challenge to the gag order restricting Trump’s comments about witnesses in the criminal hush money trial.
The filing, submitted on Wednesday, has been sealed. Meanwhile, the Manhattan district attorney's office has objected to the filing, according to the court docket.
Trump's legal team is urging the full panel of appellate judges to assess the constitutionality of the gag order.
Earlier, they had requested an appeals court judge to halt the trial temporarily so they could challenge the gag order. However, the appeals court judge denied the emergency request after oral arguments, instructing both parties to submit written briefs.
Trump's attorneys are currently seeking an expedited ruling from the appellate panel regarding the constitutionality of the gag order.
Update: Today, Judge Merchan denied Trump’s lawyers’ request to alter his gag order. Lawyer Todd Blanche also presented a second request for a mistrial. Judge Merchan has already denied the request.
