The White House has ordered the General Services Administration (GSA) to cancel all media contracts funded by the agency.“GSA team, please do two things,” a Trump administration official wrote. “Pull all contracts for Politico, BBC, E&E (Politico sub) and Bloomberg. Pull all media contracts for just GSA—cancel every single media contract today for GSA only.”
An X account linked to DOGE also announced additional cuts, including a Treasury Department contract with the New York Times.
President Trump is targeting federal media contracts after Elon Musk and his allies uncovered millions of dollars in government subscriptions to Politico Pro, a policy tracking service widely used in Washington. The discovery, made through publicly available spending records, revealed that the Biden administration had been funding anti-Trump media.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Wednesday that the executive branch would halt Politico subscriptions amid the backlash. GSA, which oversees federal real estate, procurement, and technology services, defended the contracts as standard procurement practices.
A White House official suggested more cuts could follow, citing DOGE’s mandate to reduce spending and Trump’s opposition to taxpayer-funded support for mainstream media. “The eye of Sauron is on more than just Politico,” the adviser said. “It’s all the media.”
