Senate Passes Funding Package to Avert Partial Shutdown

by | Jan 15, 2026

The Senate approved a three-bill funding package Thursday in an 82–15 vote, sending the legislation to President Trump ahead of the end-of-month deadline to prevent a partial government shutdown.

The package provides funding for the Departments of Commerce, Justice, and Interior, along with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Lawmakers still face six remaining appropriations bills before funding for parts of the government expires on Jan. 30. The House has passed two of those measures, bringing the total approved to eight of the 12 annual spending bills, with negotiations continuing over funding for major departments, including Defense, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services.
