Upon Ken Buck's departure from Congress, a Republican committee will hold a special election on June 25 to select a candidate to serve the remainder of his term.
The committee may opt for one of Lauren Boebert's opponents from the 4th District to contest the special election, which is scheduled to coincide with the primary.
Boebert has opted out of running in the special election, criticizing Buck's sudden retirement, which further reduces the House's narrow majority.
Boebert claimed that this was a result of a ‘swampy backroom deal’ establishment concocted by the establishment, to try to rig an election Boebert is winning ‘by 25 points.’
With each party's vacancy committee set to select a candidate on Thursday for the special election scheduled on June 25, the prevailing expectation is that the Republican candidate, given the district's conservative leaning, will likely emerge victorious.
Boebert's decision to vie for Rep. Buck's 4th Congressional District seat in November, rather than seeking reelection in her current 3rd District, has led some critics to label her as a “carpetbagger,” suggesting she is opportunistically seeking office in a district where she has no prior ties.
