by | Jan 20, 2026

President Trump said he held a “very good telephone call” with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte focused on Greenland and its role in global security, confirming that the parties agreed to meet in Davos, Switzerland, to continue discussions.

Trump emphasized that “Greenland is imperative for National and World Security,” adding that there is broad agreement that “there can be no going back.” In the statement, Trump also underscored U.S. military strength, pointing to the rebuilding of the armed forces during his first term and noting that the effort is continuing at an accelerated pace.

He described the United States as “the most powerful Country anywhere on the Globe, by far,” arguing that American strength is central to maintaining global peace. Trump concluded by stating that peace is ensured “quite simply, through STRENGTH.”
