A new Harvard CAPS-Harris poll shows broad public backing for President Trump’s agenda, with strong support for his efforts on immigration, government reform, and economic policy.
The poll found overwhelming approval for key initiatives: 81% support deporting criminal illegal immigrants, 76% favor closing the border with additional security, and 76% back a full-scale effort to eliminate fraud and waste in government. Additionally, 69% support banning men from competing in women’s sports, and 68% agree with defining gender as male and female.
On economic policy, 61% support reciprocal tariffs, 60% back direct U.S.-Russia negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, and 59% favor cutting government spending already approved by Congress. Nearly half of Americans describe the economy under Trump as “strong,” the highest level since 2021, with a plurality saying his policies will leave them “financially better off.”
Trump’s job performance received approval across demographics, including men, women, independents, and Americans in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Nearly six in ten believe he is doing a better job than Biden. Optimism about the country’s direction has also risen, with those saying the U.S. is on the right track up 14 points from last month.
Support for government reform remains high, with 77% favoring a full examination of federal expenditures and 72% backing a dedicated agency for efficiency. Two-thirds believe Congress should join efforts to reduce spending.
The poll also found net positive favorability ratings for key administration figures, including Vice President JD Vance, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
