Politico, a prominent left-leaning political journalism outlet, failed to pay its employees for the most recent pay period, sparking confusion and concern among staff. Employees were informed that a “technical error” caused the delay in salary disbursement.
The situation gained traction online as discussions surfaced regarding Politico’s financial relationship with the U.S. government. Documents revealed that under the Biden administration, Politico received approximately $8.1 million in funding from 2024 onward, though details on how the money was allocated remain undisclosed.
Adding to the controversy, a purchase order highlighted by Elon Musk showed the FDA paid Politico $517,000 for 37 subscriptions. “This is odd,” Musk commented, raising further questions about the extent of government spending on media outlets.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed today that the taxpayer funding from USAID to media outlets such as POLITICO will be stopped. The DOGE team is working on cancelling those payments currently.
