Three Democratic officials in Pennsylvania have been indicted in federal court for allegedly conspiring to manipulate elections by illegally adding individuals to voter rolls.
Vice President of the Borough of Millbourne Council Md Nurul Hasan, Council Member Md Munsur Ali, and former Council Member Md Rafikul Islam were charged Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, each facing 16 counts of election fraud for falsifying voter registrations.
Federal prosecutors allege the three men—who are of Bangladeshi origin—used an online voter registration portal to inflate voter rolls in an effort to secure borough council seats during the 2021 local primary election. Both Hasan and Islam lost their primary races, though Hasan later won a council seat in the 2023 election.
Millbourne is a small Pennsylvania borough with just over 1,000 residents, the majority of whom are registered Democrats. Nearly two-thirds of the population is South Asian, with 63.8 percent of residents being foreign-born.
