Pam Bondi, President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, is set for a final Senate floor vote after senators voted 52-46 on Monday to invoke cloture, limiting further debate on her nomination.
Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and longtime prosecutor, was praised for her composure during her nearly six-hour confirmation hearing. She skillfully handled contentious questions from critics and reiterated her commitment to enforcing federal law without political bias.
“Politics has to be taken out of this system,” Bondi told the Senate Judiciary Committee, emphasizing that “this department has been weaponized for years and years and years, and it has to stop.”
Her performance earned praise from Republicans and some Democrats, helping her nomination advance. With the cloture vote defeating a legislative filibuster, Bondi now awaits a final confirmation vote in the full Senate.
