Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced plans to step down from her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. The decision fuels speculation that she may be considered for a possible Senate vacancy in Florida, after Senator Marco Rubio was nominated for secretary of state.
“The job I came to do is now complete, and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting,” Lara Trump said in a statement posted on X.
If Rubio is confirmed as secretary of state in the incoming Trump administration, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would be responsible for appointing a replacement to serve the remainder of Rubio’s term, which runs through 2026.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Lara Trump expressed interest in the possibility of filling the seat. “It is something I would seriously consider,” she said. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
