The Justice Department has demanded roughly 865,000 ballots along with hundreds of thousands of related election records from the Detroit-area 2024 federal election, warning it could seek a court order if Michigan officials do not comply within 14 days.
In an April 14 letter to Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon requested access to “all ballots, including absentee and provisional,” as well as ballot envelopes and ballot receipts from the November 2024 election.
The letter referenced past fraud convictions and prior allegations in Wayne County, which includes Detroit, and warned that failure to comply could lead the department to seek a court order compelling production.
