The Justice Department has asked a federal judge to unseal years-old grand jury transcripts tied to Jeffrey Epstein, following an order from President Trump.
The motion was signed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Attorney General Pam Bondi. It states that the justice department will also file a similar motion in the case against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate.
“Given the public interest in the investigative work conducted by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation into Epstein,” the filing states, “the Department of Justice moves the Court to unseal the underlying grand jury transcripts in United States v. Epstein, subject to appropriate redactions of victim-related and other personal identifying information.”
The decision to unseal the transcripts now rests with a federal judge. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman presided over Epstein’s criminal case prior to his 2019 death, which authorities ruled a suicide. Any release is likely to be delayed as the court must first confer with victims and individuals named in the sealed testimony, as required under federal law.
